This is a must have. The cover looks about as uncreative as you can get though.

What I find confusing is the inconsistency of the FTD team concerning what songs get put where.

"You'll never walk alone" and "We call on him" were originally on "How great thou art", now are on this set.

Many of the songs on the list for this set were spread out among, "Guitar man" and "Stay away joe".

Since "Stay Away" and those songs were part of that soundtrack set, how will he deal with this small amount songs eventually,....Double feature it
with another?

I wish more thought had been put into dividing which songs were included in these sessions sets, but perhaps they
just want to go by reels and not songs.

No way does "Fools fall in love" belong on "How great thou art". Along with "love letters" and "come what may" and others.

Including "You'll never walk alone" and "We call on him" on the How Great thou art sessions set would have been the more logical
match and given that , that is exactly what they did when they put out the How Great thou Art FTD.

Goin home and stay away were recorded 3 months after the mgm session for stay away Joe (mgm needed a song for the titles. Instead of booking a separate session he included them in this studio session).

This session set is covering non-soundtrack studio material. If you don’t include these songs then the session with too much monkey business, US male and others isn’t complete.

You are not making any sense. You are not consistent with your thinking on this.

You say, all those songs recorded on the How great thou art sessions are included because they were recorded at the session, then you
go on to say, songs recorded at a completely different session than Guitar man in the next year mind you, should be included.

Can't have it both ways. The FTD team has had major judgement issues many many times.
They just seem to pull things out of nowhere with no reason at all.
Another example is including Soundtrack songs with session songs such as on the "Something for Everybody" sessions set.
Wild in the country sessions should never have been compiled with the former sessions.
One is back in 1960, and the other is in 1961. The more logical thing to do would have been
to compile Flaming star with Wild in the country. They are at least both sessions from the same year, 1960, and both
are soundtracks.

The gospel sessions, just as the Soundtracks should have been seperated for the collector so that we can
store them chronologically with some sort of reasonable system in place. The FTD team is losing the plot ....again.
No way does, "Down in the alley" even flow with "How great thou art". They should have kept it organized logically.
And the more they do this the more fragmented the catalog becomes. Sooner or later it becomes a mess.

This is unmissable !

At first glance & going by the title, I thought these might be the 1980 new backings, but they're not !

I think it makes perfect sense.

This set is covering the complete sessions recorded on -
September 10-12,1967
And January 15-17, 1968

They’re also including the odd overdub session for “Suppose” in March 1967.

Image

Excluding the movie soundtrack sessions for Clambake, Speedway, Stay Away Joe and Live a Little love a Little these are the complete studio sessions for 1967-1968, (January 1967 to May 1968).

It’s not haphazard in any way.

The specific purpose of the May 1966 sessions was to record a gospel album and a number of pop single sides, so not including the secular recordings on the How Great Thou Art sessions makes no sense at all.

Likewise You'll Never Walk Alone and We Call On Him were recorded well over 12 months after the How Great Thou Art sessions, so they clearly don't belong on that set.

I think Sony were able to use a little more artistic license with the classic album series, as it wasn't uncommon for Elvis' regular albums to include a mixture of old(er) and new recordings.

Let's not forget that Crying In The Chapel was also appended to the How Great Thou Art album, but no one was expecting it to be included on the aforementioned sessions set...

So, I take it you are another, "ernst" does no wrong fan, and Wild in the country belongs on Something for everybody?

What you guys are missing is Ernst himself is NOT at all consistant. He switches things around and sprinkles songs, and no matter
what he does everyone loves it. Many songs on the double FTD sets were thrown about in haphazzard fashion and not conforming to
what session they came from and no one blinked an eye. Just look at the way the Pot Luck FTD 2 disc was done. Where is the consistency?

And just look at the bad reviews that I just listened to on youtube concerning the "Elvis on tour" box set which was botched.
We pay alot of money for these sets.

As these are session sets, the songs recorded at the session are included.

(Really? so then why was the first take of "Farther along" NOT included?)

And mind you this is just one example of the questionable things that goes on.

"Fools fall in love", "love letters" and "come what may" and others were recorded at the How great thou art sessions. So they are included. You'll never walk alone" and "We call on him" were recorded at the Sept 1967 sessions so they are included here.

Goin home and stay away were recorded 3 months after the mgm session for stay away Joe (mgm needed a song for the titles. Instead of booking a separate session he included them in this studio session).

Again this is lunacy....it's 3 months later, it's not from the same session, and it's a soundtrack song that doesn't belong here but
rather on the Stay away joe set. There has to be some sort of order and consistancy to this.

This session set is covering non-soundtrack studio material. If you don’t include these songs then the session with too much monkey business, US male and others isn’t complete.

The first take of Father Along WAS indeed included on the Ftd session set.

I made it clear thar there has been a difference in approach between FTD's classic album series and the later session sets, and for obvious reasons.

The rest of your comments are subjective. If you'd rather listen to the gospel or soundtrack recordings in isolation, you can always rip the discs and set up your own folders.
