From the 1953 Paramount (Hal Wallis) production "Scared Stiff", starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. I bet Elvis saw this movie, and this performance, at some Memphis cinema :

The Deano single came out in 1950, this movie is where Elvis heard it. Deano's movie version is a lot closer to what Elvis did at Sun a year later. I remember reading in Ernst book that they couldnt remember all the words so Marion wrote one or two verses for Elvis to sing even though she never got credit for it.

I just gave you info you could use about this song because you had no idea and you make a stupid comment instead what is your problem. Why not say something like thanks thats cool I didnt know that. People told me this was the best forum for Elvis fans but maybe they were wrong. Heres some more info for you, many people use Deano as a nickname for him.

That's right.

Here's the bit that isn't on the Dean Martin version & must be Marion Keisker's contribution for the Elvis one:

And it don't matter if it's sleet or snow,
a drive-in's cosy when the lights are low
& I'm with my baby.
Makes no difference if the rain comes down,
I don't notice when she's around,
Oh boy, what a baby

Could be.

Patti Page and Georgia Gibbs both did it in 1950, and that lyric is not on there.

There's also an introductory verse which they both sang about vitamins, which fortunately Elvis avoided.

Actually, this is quite interesting !

I've always imagined that when he was at Sun, he often thought of a song that he sort of knew & just recorded it on the spot,
using the bits of the lyric that he could remember !

But this shows another possible scenario.

He probably remembered hearing Dean Martin's version from the film & suggested they record it.

Maybe Sam felt that the few lyrics just repeated over & over & it needed something extra.

Marion Keisker was then drafted in to write a couple of extra verses [shown in my previous post].

So a lot of time & effort was put into the production of Elvis' version !

Certainly not an off-the-cuff impromptu affair !

His birth name was Dino. His artistic name was Dean.

"Deano" is only how you should pronounce his birth name. End of lesson.

I played the crap out of my red label gold standard 45.
I really like both sides, but this song seemed to be
the most different of the two....just pure Elvis gold.
