Thank you, John. Interesting stuff.

I recently came across a similar JLL broadcast, done for "Saturday Club" in 1964 too. It looks like this material has been around for ages, but it's miraculously surfacing now in more acceptable quality. It's new to me, anyway, so all is good.

That's the one ! - thank you.

I'm familiar with Brian Matthew's voice from the 1960 broadcasts he did with Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent, which have been available on record for many years. He is also the guy hosting The Beatles' BBC recordings.

Were his shows always based on live performances ?

Do you recall a particular one you listened to back then ?

No they weren't always live. He was a regular DJ. He had Saturday Club and Sounds Of The 60s.

He made some records:

He was also on TV on a show called Thank Your Lucky Stars. Check youtube for more.

I heard dozens, if not hundreds of shows by him, so no, I can't say I remember a particular one. Check out youtube, there's a quite a bit on there.

I remember in the early sixties I listened to the BBC on saturday mornings. Had to switch the radio dial to "long wave" to hear "Saturday Club".
Dutch radio hardly played any "teenage music". One hour on friday from 17.00 - 18.00 (Tijd voor teenagers - Time for teenagers) and one hour of which I do not remember the day and time but probably late afternoon too (Tussen 10+ en 20- - Between 10+ and 20- i.e. "teenagers").
I do not remember whether the songs played on "Saturday Club" were different to the records, as in most cases I did not have those records because records were very expensive or were not available here at all.
On TV there was little "teenager" music either. There is a Dutch book which lists teenage music in Dutch TV programms. Only when Top pop started you got a monthly and later weekly hour of bands and singers playbacking in the studio or filmed on location.
You bunch of spoiled brats now can see whatever you like on "YouTube" or buy it on DVD. I'm such a spoiled brat. Ha ha ha.
On a different note, I got all German "Beat-Club" shows from 1964 - 1973 on DVD-sets and watching these I wonder why next to the pretty German presenter Uschi they have British DJ Dave Lee Travis, who bumps in for attention whenever Uschi is talking.
Most performances are live but it is noticeable some are lip-sync i.e. playback.
