Just as we suspected:

But, as Liz Truss has explained: "Huge profits made at the expense of the poorer population are not evil, all part of business !"

Front door knocker sounded on Sunday.

A couple from the Hope Church [Baptists] were there.

After a short discussion I learned they were 'young earthers'
["6,000 years ?" I asked -"Oh, I wouldn't like to put an exact date on it, but less that 10,000 anyway"] !

They dismissed fossils with a shrug.

They also believed that every word in the bible was directly from god, even if written down by mortal men.

I drew his attention to a bit from Deuteronomy:

Deuteronomy [Red] - 002.jpg

The girl has no say in things, but must marry the man who brutally raped her.

I asked if they believed that's how they want things to work in our society today.

No answer.

Later on he came back & said "I never responded to your point about Duteronomy, did I ?"

"No, you didn't !"

He still didn't.

They left with their tails between their legs....

The Hope Church? Never heard of them. What are they hoping for? I'm impressed with your knowledge of that work of fiction.

They're 'hoping' to convert sinners like me !

Fat chance !

'Hope' is just the name of the particular church, which is a few doors up from my house.

I've had to look things up pretty often to counter the silly arguments of 'believers' & it's left me in a situation where I
often know more about the bible than they do !

They tend to cherry pick the bits about the kind & loving Jesus & aren't always aware of the darker & unacceptable parts !

I'm always happy to point them out !

I thank our dear lord that I've got the opportunity to do so.

It's great fun because they have to insist that every word in the bible is directly from their god, however bizarre they seem.

If they were ever to come up with the excuse that 'some bits' were the work of others, they would lay themselves open to the question:

"How do you know which bits are which ?"

Something they could never answer !

I had a letter from the Pensions Service about my state pension:

With the cost of living very high now, & even more to come, I'm grateful for this increase.

The only problem is, what to spend it on !

Software that enables the removal of those annoying watermarks on photos has come on in leaps & bounds:

In the Sunday People - a UK weekly newspaper - 18th September, 2022:

Sunday People - 18th Sept 2022 - Quote of the Day - 16th September - 001.jpg

1953 - after the austerity in the period following WW2, things were improving.

There was a bit more money about, families were getting record players or radiograms.

Youngsters were getting into music, but rock 'n' roll hadn't yet hit the main scene.

The Top 10 chart here shows how we were enjoying pop music, albeit mostly from US performers.

Guy Mitchell, Frankie Laine, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin & Johnnie Ray ruled !

They all were popular, but in 2 or 3 years they would be knocked sideways by a new rockin' sound !
