"The Penguin Suit" ?

That was a quiet tribute to The Penguins, who recorded the original version of "Earth Angel" in 1954.

I'm not familiar with his jumpsuits. I just go jumpsuit blind if I see any photos of him in them. I couldn't name any of them, I couldn't tell you what the colours or patterns are on them. I just never study them. As far as I'm concerned, he should have stopped wearing them in 1971 at the latest.

Don't be cruel, John. What would those damn impersonators have worn, then ?

It's interesting that most of those losers try to imitate him from 1970 onwards only, as if he had done nothing before that.

I don't pay any attention to impersonators although you're right, if they accidentally pop up on youtube, or a photo pops up in the press, it's usually fat Elvis in a garish outfit. Yeughhhhh.

I'm just going through my FTDs. I stopped buying soundboards a while ago, and I'm getting rid of any I that have post 1971, with the exception of maybe one or two.

Reasons: One is the sound is crap on most of them compared to properly recorded songs, two is the awful photo on the front of Elvis in full Liberace mode, three is the repetitiveness, four is the little respect he pays the classic songs that helped him become "Elvis" and five is the clear evidence showing his decline.

The official name was the 'Black & White Two-tone Street Suit' also known as the 'Indian Suit' or 'Penguin Suit'.

Only worn on the one occasion: 19th August, 1975, midnight show:

According to julienslive.com, someone paid $121,875 for this suit...

That poor 8mm footage makes the suit look even more bizarre than it already is... It kinda looks like a monk's cowl

I think the Penguin suit was also one of the few suits that was not a stage costume, but rather part of his street clothes.
There are pics of him wearing this suit I believe on other dates.
It would have been ok if he was thinner say, 1970, but this type of pattern on him didn't flatter his weight at the time.
Colin, the suit he wore on the cover of the Elvis Presley Blvd. is known as the Indian suit.

I realize suits have changed names over the years, but I learned them in the 70's but
as we came near the 2000's I noticed some fans changed the names of them.
I don't know what your source is, but I suspect it's a later source.
Another one that I notice alot, is when they call the blue rainbow suit as worn
in Sanfranciso among other places in late 1976, fans started calling it the blue swirl suit.
But there was already a blue swirl suit that Elvis wore in Las vegas in August 1973.

So, if the the penguin suit is the Indian suit, then what is the one on the cover of Blvd. album called?

That would be the 'Indian Chief Suit' [or variously 'Old Indian' or just 'Chief' & sometimes 'Indian Feather Suit'].

He wore it first at Huntsville, Alabama, on 31st May, 1975 & subsequently on the June & July tours.

See, I'm quite a 'Jump Suit Junkie', aren't I ?

I had no idea you were such a jump suit expert.....Yes, Indian feather is the full name of that suit.
Never heard it called the Indian chief suit though.
The penguin suit name does make sense though because of the black and white design.
There are many suits with random amount of studs and fake stones on them arranged in various
designs that I would assume some of those white suits with stones don't even have a name because
there is nothing specific about them that sets them apart from the many other suits that looks similair.
many of the suits from 1973 fall into that catagory.

Well, not really.

I've got a book which attempts to show each jumpsuit he wore in chronological order, with all their names...
