I think he got hold of advance transcripts of some of it. And since May or June, it was already starting to get serialized on a tabloid. His mind must of been in a dark place, the body soon followed.

Original. I got it from my elderly neighbor when I was a boy, in the 70s.

At the time, I wasn't into books or even Elvis books.
I was more about the music so it was off my radar.
I never got it til a few years later around 1980.
At the time , I was oblivious to the timing
and relevance of the book.
I still think had there been no book, there
quite possibly have been no death.
I think the over all stress he was going under at the time
facing his fans for the first time with fans knowing the man
way behind the image, put a strain on him, and he took more meds than he might have otherwise.

The biggest problem with the book was that it came 4 years too late.

Elvis' body and drug habit were already too far gone to make that claim. There had already been several close calls... this time no one was around to save him.

I think that even if Ginger had got to the bathroom really quickly, she would have been too late.

I've been thinking of this recently and the way Ginger tells it is that he wanted to go to the bathroom to read.

Did he often go to the bathroom to read before sleeping? Or was this a one off thing?

Linda Thompson would know this as well.

Was this the only time he ever went to the bathroom to read?

I wonder if this was a pattern and so Ginger thought no big deal.

I don't know. It's years since I've read about any of that stuff.
