Indeed, Little Richard's classic recordings are unbeatable. No Elvis, Jerry Lee, Beatles could improve on them.

By the way, Elvis recorded four LR songs in 1956, even performing a couple of them on live TV. One of the first wrong moves in his career.

Plus "Send Me Some Lovin'" on the 1959 home recordings in Germany.

No one sang a Rock'n'Roll song like Little Richard. I think Elvis was a bit brave to take on 4 of Richards well known powerhouse rockers that Elvis' vocals couldn't match or compete with.

It was a big mistake. Those songs were only a few months, or maybe weeks, old when he covered them. A waste of time, unworthy of Elvis' greatness in those years.

For his first two albums, they were frantically thrashing about, looking for songs for him to record.

In those days, he was pretty fussy & rejected lots of stuff !

Covering some recent hit songs which he liked was an easy option...

Yeah, that was later. He should have done the original on that, no doubt about it.

Pat Boone was also himself covering other performers' songs.

A 'sanitised' & 'white' version of Rock 'n' Roll - with all the guts ripped out of it !

At least Elvis was true to the genre at that time...

It had been composed by Charles Singleton, who had also written or co-written many other great songs, among them "Tryin' To Get To You" :

I have just finished playing Bear Family's Street Corner Symphonies CD - The Complete Story Of Doo Wop Volume 6: 1954. The Eagles "Tryin To Get To You" is on there. What a beautiful version it is.

How many volumes are there?

There are 15 volumes starting in 1939 and ending in 1963. I have the first 9 volumes which is up to 1957. I haven't bothered with the rest of them because the songs get a little weak with maybe 1 or 2 decent ones but not enough to buy the CDs
