Grandparents do try to pass on the wisdom of their experience to the younger generation.
When one of my granddaughters lost her job, I advised her to 'sign on' in order to get the unemployment benefit.
The way I understood it, if you've been working & paying tax & National Insurance, you would qualify for that.
The only stipulation was that if you left your job voluntarily, there was a 6-week wait before you got the benefit.
I was wrong !
She soon found out that there is no 'unemployment benefit' these days !
All benefits come under the umbrella of 'Universal Credit' !
She filled in a long form that wanted to know everything about her situation.
Then they told her she didn't qualify for any payment because her "funds didn't warrant it" !
If only she'd made sure she spent all her income on partying, she'd have got it !
Daft, I call it.
