I still can't believe Vernon rushed into a marraige so soon after the death of his wife.
And to her?

Dee had her sights set on elvis, He sent his father In his place. The rest his history.

Dee clapped eyes on Elvis when he played a show in Newport News, Virginia, in 1955, the year before classic hits like Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes and Hound Dog caused a worldwide sensation. They finally met four years later in Friedberg, Germany, where both Elvis and Dee's first husband, Sgt William Stanley, were serving with the US army.

After Gladys died, aged just 46, of a heart attack brought on by hepatitis, Vernon joined his son there too. They were staying at the Gruenwald Hotel when Dee phoned. 'When I heard his mother had died I wanted to call and express my sympathy', she said. 'It must have been fate... my call was put through, and the next day I was invited to have coffee with them'. Some say a dinner date with the star was arranged then Elvis decided to send Vernon in his place. And most agree she had set her sights on the son in the first place. However the young singer wasn't interested in a woman who at 29 was four years his senior. So romance blossomed with Vernon, and in April 1960 Dee told her husband she wanted a divorce to marry the widower. When Elvis heard, he flew into a rage that his dad could think of marrying again so soon and he didn't go to the wedding.

thank you for the nice summary, elvislady.
according to her grave site, dee stanley-presley, born in 1925, was not 4, but 10 years elvis´ senior; so she was a little closer to vernon in age, than to his son.

i find the photo interesting for all three of them looking into different directions.
dee looks right into the camera, elvis looks happily to his dad, but their eyes don´t meet, since vernon gazes into the distance, as if he wasn´t really there.

You are welcome, Christopher. I meant to change the age gap. Thanks for correction.

Stumbled upon a picture on ebay today that must be from the same day as the first picture in this thread. There was something odd about it at first sight, but I didn't get it until I found another version of it on pinterest: Someone just tried to erased four fans here... "Erased... from Existence!" as Doc Emmett Brown used to say in 1955 8-) . That's really odd... And what about the date? According to the Daily Elvis Blog (and pinterest) it was November 6th, 1960. On this day Elvis flew to Los Angeles to start with the preproduction of "Wild In The Country":

If they had "erased" a certain other person, I guess I wouldn't really care...

With sunglasses on he looks like a blues brother... 8-)

...without them he looks like an Austrian tour guide... ;)
(Scene from "Season in Salzburg" - 1961: Peter Alexander as Heinz Doll)

It once again shows his versatility in style

Haha. I was about to post a Blues Brothers link. Thank you for that HillbillyCat.

I don't think hats fitted him well. That was not his natural look. I'ts like seeing Dean Martin in Lansky gear

I think he looked fine in hats.
