Even his self styled perm in 55 was cooler than anything Larry was ever capable of...

I'm not too fond of that perm look, but my point was that he knew exactly how to comb his hair. He shouln't have allowed anybody touch it. Look at the fabulous (blond) haircut he was wearing when he returmed from Germany. It only lasted a couple of weeks, though. Oh well.

Hmm, I wasn't aware of that. Any pics?

Well said!

The guy had so much talent and creativity in him, most of which never saw the light of day. Such a shame.

Including, a good majority of interior design ideas (except for 1970's fashions ;) ).

Ha! The 1970's spared very few! 70's fashion is generally abominable. Mind you, there are some cool pics of Elvis in casual wear from around 72 that look great.

Thanks, Colin.

In my view, Elvis looked the healthiest and happiest, that he ever looked, at this time.

'Blond' might be overstating things, but he hadn't yet reached for the black hair dye.

It was just his natural colour wasn't it, as in Love Me Tender, Kid Galahad and Follow That Dream?

Yes.

He first went jet black after filming Love Me Tender, then let his natural lighter colour grow back during his army years, & at odd times later.

This photo looks colourized to me.

Could be.

True-colour pics from that time are rare...

March 1960 - Press Conference - Graceland-.jpg

... and it's not easy to spot which ones are colourised...

This one is genuine colour. His hair is more a mousey brown colour. He was blond as a kid, apparently.

Mystery solved. No wonder Elvis' hair looked so good at this time.

From the lovely Kat Westmoreland:

I’d be remiss to not mention Patti Perry, who was Elvis’ hairstylist and important friend in his Comeback Years here. What a unique, good person, with a low raspy voice, and great hairstylist. She’d come in after the shows ordinarily, so was not at the breakfast table that night.

The above is an excerpt from Kathy's notes for a proposed book.

My hair does that, so, it could be a natural photo, with the flash hitting Elvis' hair.

I can look honey blondish, or if the light is dim, my hair looks very dark (of course Elvis dyed his hair in later years, we know that), it all just depends on the light, the sun, if I have been swimming and in the sun, a camera's flash (the only reason I am saying this is to support my case. Ha!).

I think all people's hair does that when the light hits it in a photo. So it's no mystery. And yes, it is a genuine colour photo but not the one where Elvis is sitting on the couch.
