Elvis TTWII 12th midnight August concert from 3 CD BMG set versus bonus 12th August Ttwii concert on 2cd legacy edition.

Postby picturefan » Tue Sep 10, 2019 8:22 pm

Upfront:I didn't bought the recently 6 CD 2 DVD set of TTWII.
In 2000 on the 3 cd set they released the midnight show of the 12th 1970.
Arguably one of the best concerts of elvis .
I recently listened and was very much underwhelmed by the sound.was better in my memory.
Since then I bought the album Ttwii several times(regular CD, the goldplated Japan (?) Version , the ftd Version ).
I also have the August 70 concert from the 4cd Las Vegas box, the opening night ftd from the 11th and the wonder of you CD.

Its now for me about the live concert quality...since i dont want to buy the whole 8cd set just for the midnight12 August concert.
I think I will buy the legacy TTWII edition which contains the DINNER show from the 12th on cd2.
Question is.....is the audio quality of that dinner show from the 12th better on that 2014 legacy 2 CD set compared to the midnight 12th show from the old 2000 BMG set?
I only talk about the sonic quality.
Any help?

Yes the sound quality is better on the new box.
Also it has the untampered ''Polk Salad Annie'' which was tampered on the 3 CD Box being spliced with another version because of so called damage.
and also has the introductions on the new box which were ommited on the 3 cd set. The show runs 5 minutes longer on the new edition.

This is the sound quality of the 12th dinner show

You mean CD 2 of the LEGACY edition of TTWII?
(I wasn't talking about the complete 6xd, 2dvd box of ttwii).

I mainly asked if the sonic quality of the concert on CD 2 of the legacy edition of TTWII better is than the quality of the concert on the 3 CD box from 2000 (which, of course, contains a different show).

Sorry, again.....I ask for a comparison of sound from CD 2 of legacy edition and the one on the 3 CD set from 2000.
As seen in the pictures I posted.

I also like the sound on that release....in fact I like all the mixes by the late Ferrante....all except the 1999 release of On Stage.

That's why I just bought the legacy edition of on stage (Incl. in person)
Because I noticed that on my 1999 CD some tracks are running noticeable too slow.
And that has nothing to do with bad mixing (although, as I understand, on that 1999 CD they used the unrepaired masters, without advertising even?), just sloppy work.
I do like the sound on the legacy edition much better than that on the bad 1999 cd.

Nobody answered my easy question....I guess I have to buy it to judge myself.
Would have been nice if I would have received some advice on the said sonic comparison on those two shows .

I have all three releases : original TTWII 3 CD set, Legacy and The Large DVD/CD set . I usually don't like to give my opinion on sound because it's so subjective - what sounds good to one person might sound mediocre to another. Having said that ,to my ears and stereo system, the Legacy release sounds better than the nineties master. The version on the Legacy Cd sounds like the same mastering as on the large box set, and I thought everything on the large TTWII box set sounds terrific , but I believe that it's now sold out and out of print, and going for big bucks. So ,the Legacy release may be the only way to go.

Checked.
The sound on CD 2 of the legacy edition with the dinner show sounds sonically much much better than the midnight show on the 3 CD box.
The bass is pumping and sounds warm, the orchestra is on several songs rightly in the foreground, so are the sweets.
Impressive sound.
Funny beginning too with the break up of "that's alright " right before elvis starts.
What happened there?

Why did he stop the opening riff and did start again?
