Just for the record, almost a 10 % of your posts here include the word "black".

Ever wonder why they didn't go to his concerts, .....

Errr...that is not true, neither in the 50s or 70s tour concerts.
Black people attended his tour concerts.
Vegas is a different matter, because of the general public there in those times were white and there to gamble mainly. But not because of black people avoiding elvis.

I'll leave it there.

Yes, that is true. She is no longer in the “Black Lives Mattered to Elvis” group for that reason.

Quite liked this personal note in my copy:

30 Pieces of Silver - Book Note001.jpg

Not seen any major errors yet.

The book was published in 2016, when the publicity that I've read seemed to suggest it was new.

The quality of the paper & the reproduction of the photos is first class.

The book is largely text, but there are many photos & an impressive attempt has been made to identify the people seen, the location & date of each one in the accompanying description.

That's not something we normally get !

[An early quibble - the photo used on page 46 is colourised]

As long as there are no reversed photos, we are on the right track.

Not all, but most of the Memphis Mafia were typical southern bigots who hid their racist feelings from Elvis because of how his feelings weren't the same. That's why they removed black people such as Magnolia Smith from the REAL Elvis story. That's called white supremacy. Something that Elvis did not support going by his actions against racism.

Props to Joyce Rochelle Vaughn for having the guts and bravery to expose their kids and deception.

Do you have a problem with that? Maybe it's because the black people I know hate Elvis based off of what they were told about him. So I try to educate them on Elvis that he loved black people and was influenced by black culture. If you only knew how the black race feels about Elvis in general, all because of a made up lie about black people shining his shoes, you would be surprised. Ever wonder why they didn't go to his concerts, despite him having and putting The Sweet Inspirations up front with him ahead of all the white backup singers? But they went to Tom Jones shows who stuck the black backup singers all the way to the back of the stage. It's because they were raised to think he was racist. That's what she points out in her book. Her aunt taught her a lie based off of the shoeshine lie. Why do you think blacks don't visit Graceland? And those who do stay quiet about it in fear of what the other blacks say.

It's not fair to Elvis who did so much for black people to be misconceived as something he never was. Quote from Mary Jenkins of what Elvis told her. "I'll help a black person ten times more than I will a white person".

I have no problem with anything, but I find it tiresome to be constantly seeing topics about this damn subject.

We fans know how Elvis felt about it, and that should be more than enough for us.

We can't stay on a permanent crusade telling others this and that.

If some people (black, white, yellow or red) are not educated enough to appreciate Elvis, that's their loss.

Scooby, your points are well made and I respect your comment about how "Magnolia Smith" was removed from the Elvis story. My question is around how "prescient" Magnolia was to the MM at the time?

There shouldn't be a need to defend or debunk something that wasn't true. It only can backfire, in my opinion.

I agree. It's absurd to go through life in a defensive way, when you've got nothing to hide.

Also, I want to enjoy Elvis' musical contributions. He was a great performer but, heck, I'm not his attorney !

If there are untrue rumours, surely it's in order to 'debunk' them, isn't it ?

Then the truth will be known...
