I have a claim for my water fountain, the wild deer knocked it down when they tried to drink from it and broke the bowl and other pieces, and I have not been game to put the paperwork into the insurance company - ha! (I have proof and a replacement quote, plus I advised the insurance company, it had been raining, and, the funny "proof" is, I took photos of the deer's footprints, I laugh as I type this).

Yes, I've been with them for some time.

I think maybe she was embarrassed because I called her out, when she wasn't expecting me to be familiar with the policy, & her speedy settlement of the claim was to sort of 'make up' for her error.

Your story made me smile.

Are your insurers paying out ?

It is good that your claim went as it did, Colin, how the lady was embarrassed and pushed it through, so it went well. You have a good excess, too.

I really don't know, the insurance company said to just send in my documentation with photos, (they've sent assessors out previously for "normal" storm damage claims).

I also have a photo (which I don't need to share) of the deer's droppings, more proof, so funny.

Here is one photo of the many taken after the skies were so kind to open and soften the ground:

If my horses broke the fountain, the insurance company said that it would not be covered.

Thanks for the photo !

I know damage caused by 'pets' isn't covered by home insurance.

Maybe horses fall into that category...

You are welcome.

Horses must fall into the pet category, although they have damaged some things too, I did not worry about claiming the damage the horses have done as that is my responsibility; however, the wild and introduced deer, the continual damage that they have done has been very disheartening and expensive.

Yesterday [Friday] I had to get a locksmith in because of lost keys.

Rang the insurance company & asked if I was covered for this.

The young lady looked up my policy & informed me she was very sorry but, although they did have cover for this, it wasn't included on my policy.

I informed her that I had the policy in front of me & read out a bit that said 'Replacement locks & keys - maximum claim £1,000'.

She went away for a bit & when she returned, she asked 'How much was it ?'

I told her it was £304.80.

She said she'd make a payment to my bank account of that amount [less the £100 excess].

The money was there on Saturday morning !

No proof, no documentation, no dragging things out for weeks !

Apart from initially denying that I was covered, this was the best & most speedy treatment I've ever had from an insurance company !

I've just changed my contents insurance company. I didn't see a lost keys option, and didn't even give it a second thought. A couple of days later I received a doofrey to attach to my key ring which gives their number in the event the keys are lost. Without attaching it, my keys are not insured.

Talking of modern technology, ITV broadcast a 'virtual Grand National', comprised of CGI horses & riders yesterday, before the actual one.

As I was watching someone walked in the room & thought it was the real thing !

It's a pity the 'virtual' race predicted the wrong winner !

So good that your son is involved, too. :D

Thanks, Mountain Mist !

My sister & my daughter both wanted to come as well, but they've both got other family things that day.

Apparently it's been an annual event for the last 5 years, but I've only just become aware of it.

Maybe they didn't want you there before.
Now I guess they meet only every ten years.

I've been trying out an 'automatic colouriser' app for b & w photos.

The results vary, but sometimes are [almost] acceptable:

It begs the question, why would you want to colourise black and white photos?

Because the original subjects were in full colour.

It's the black & white versions which are a distortion of the true state of things.

The colouring is an attempt, however weak, to capture how things might have really looked...

How does the app know which colours to choose, Colin?

No, that doesn't work for me. There are many iconic B&W photos. There's a different perspective to B&W photos which could be lost had they been in colour.

The site states:

"Note: The purpose of colourisation is to generate an image with colours that are plausible.
It by no means guarantees that the colourised image is an accurate representation of the actual snapshot in time."

In other words, it makes a wild guess !

It's quite a fun thing to play with !

I'll tell you different without being miserable, or a nay-sayer. It may be fun, but it's not real. Lots of things are fun, but they are not fun for everyone. If the black & white versions are a distortion of the true state of things, then false colourisation is as much, if not more, a distortion of the true state of things. Can you imagine how poor the Wertheimer shots would be if you colourised them?

If it's a wild guess, what's the point?

You said yourself
Because the original subjects were in full colour.

Weak is right, as it by no mean represents or resembles the real thing. As you know, there are lots of false images on the internet where people have colourised photos, and then people believe they are real when they are not.

I'm not putting you down for playing with it so you should not be so defensive, I'm sure it's fun, but it should not be used to present something as real when it wasn't, which I'm sure you'd never do. The RPO recordings are fun (some of them), but again, some people may see these as the original recordings when they are not. At least though it's made clear they are not original whereas with photos it's not always clear.
