PJ Proby

Postby goldbelt » Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:38 pm

To begin this topic, live concert footage of PJ Proby from the 1965 period seems rather rare, but here is a great compilation which includes the available footage from the time.

He was always a brilliant singer and performer. He came close to losing everything at one point, but fortunately turned his life around.

P J Proby was a singer for demo versions until he moved to UK around 1963/64.
Is there anything more known about this subject?
I know the P J Proby fanclub released a 4 track EP at the time.
P.S. I'm not a fan but only curious about his demo-recordings.

From an old PJ Proby - forum:

As we know, P.J. Proby did the demos for the Elvis Movies from Kid till he went to the UK in May 1964. He did all the demos for Ruth Batchelor and Ben Weisman.

PJ Proby also wrote the song 'In My Dreams' if not mistaken.

The song 'I'll Keep Your Secret' was another Weisman and Wayne composition.

With the recent CD of Glen Campbell demos being such a good listen, a similar release of Proby demos would be cool, wouldn't it.

On the subject of PJ Proby and Glen Campbell demo recordings, interestingly, there is a CD of 1960-1962 demos of songs by songwriter Sharon Sheeley which also features a number of demo recordings from PJ and from Glen. Hal Blaine and Mac Davis also feature on the album for further Elvis connections.

I have that one. It's an enjoyable and interesting listen. This is Trouble by PJ Proby and Mac Davis.

Some good tracks on the album - and it is on Spotify for those that may be interested.

This PJ track from the album is a good one, and there are some good ones by Glen too, as well as others.

I had another listen to PJ's 1997 album 'Legend' recently.

Among the tracks, he covers Elvis' If I Can Dream and Don't.

However, the two tracks below are my favourites from the 'Legend' album.
