‘Ballad Of A Thin Man’ (1965)

What does it mean?: Who is ‘Mr Jones’? Well after years of not admitting his identity Dylan admitted the shady figure was Max Jones, a Melody Maker journalist who didn’t get Dylan’s lyrics. Which makes sense if you consider lines like: (“You walk into the room/With your pencil in your hand…You try so hard/But you don’t understand”).

Ahhh I finally found it.... Bumped. Can't believe it's taken this long to find.

Hey folks, what i want to do here is to add some of my recent Bobster posts. I am going to delete these (as in the ones that achieved no response) and add them to here. The mods can then decide on if they want to add the rest that DID GET REPLIES.

Makes sense.

Bob Dylan & John Lennon Chatting in London, 1966 [RESTORED FOOTAGE AND AUDIO]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g2X_MtVRqk&t=1016s

BACKGROUND INFO:

Scene: the back of a limo.

Time: early morning.

Dramatis Personae: John Lennon, a Beatle; Bob Dylan, a folk-rock superstar; Bobby Neuwirth, friend of Dylan's and temporary sound recordist; D.A. Pennebaker, cinéma vérité film-maker; Tom, a chauffeur.

It's 7 A.M. The sun is up over Hyde Park. Bob Dylan and John Lennon are driving back in a limousine to Dylan's hotel after a restless night at Lennon's suburban home. The Beatle is stoned but distinctly edgy. Dylan is about to be sick. Filmed by DA Pennebaker and recorded by Bob Neuwirth, this scene was judged too weird for even "Eat The Document," the infamously strange and never-officially-released follow-up to "Don't Look Back." Even though the footage is, as Rolling Stone points out, "Incoherent ramblings of two impossibly stoned rock stars," it is also an extremely important historical document: The only existing footage of two of the greatest songwriters together.

This is one of the most insightful outtake collections I've uploaded. You can really hear the evolution of this track, as Dylan tries over and over again to find the right sound. Since he couldn't find what he was looking for the first time around, Dylan abandoned "Visions" for almost three months! The last take (Take 1) was recorded right before the master take. Below is a brief tracklist with dates.

TRACKLIST:
0:00-2:50 - Take 3 (11/30/1965) Rehearsal [FAST VERSION]
2:50-4:44 - Take 6 (11/30/1965) Rehearsal [FAST VERSION]
4:44-7:00 - Takes 9–12 (11/30/1965) [FAST VERSION]
7:00-7:25 - Take 1 (2/14/1966) False Start [SLOW VERSION]

Knockin' On Heaven's Door [RARE STUDIO OUTTAKE]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6fuQRIsPuM

Quote and Upload by Swinging Pig -
This is a studio recording a rehearsal that Dylan did for the soundtrack of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Dylan was hired to be a composer for the film, but as you can tell from the studio banter in the beginning, he did not enjoy the experience: "This is the last time I work for anybody though in a movie--for the music..."

I did my best to use audio software to clean up the recording, but there is unfortunately still some background noise remaining. This is probably a copy of a copy of a copy of the original tape, so a loss of quality is understandable. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic historical look into the creation of one of Dylan's most popular songs. Enjoy!

She Belongs To Me (Live HD Footage) [Birmingham 1965]

Quote Swingin' Pig -
Here's a video I pieced together. I used outtakes of D.A. Pennebaker's documentary "Don't Look Back," then overdubbed the footage with crystal-clear soundboard recordings released on "The Cutting Edge: Collector's Edition." This was recorded at Birmingham Town Hall in Birmingham, England on May 5, 1965. Enjoy this gem while you can!

If you'd like to hear a relatively-complete recording of the track, just skip ahead to 0:40. But I highly recommend listening to the studio banter; it gives great insight into the vibe of Dylan's recording sessions. These recordings were ripped from my copy of "The Cutting Edge: Collector's Edition," which was only limited to 5,000 copies. More outtakes to come, and if you have any specific songs you'd like to hear from it, let me know! If you'd like to hear more rare outtakes I've already uploaded, refer to my playlist titled, "Studio Outtakes."
Enjoy this gem while you can!

Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (BEST LIVE VERSION) [Carnegie Hall 1963]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnXbSGTg6dI

This is my favorite version of "Don't Think Twice." Shivers ran down my spine the moment he sang the first line. There's a moving, penetrating magic in his voice. His fingerpicking is also divine; I can only wonder why he didn't continue it into 1964.

This was recorded on October 26, 1963 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. I took this from the "50th Anniversary Collection 1963," a limited release of 100 copies. Enjoy this gem while you can!
