NB - The 'Hollywood' sign features in the Baz Lurhmann film 'Elvis'.

Yes, they got it a bit wrong. The sign started falling apart and they repaired it and changed it to Hollywood in 1949, which was a fantastic year as it was the year someone very close to me was born.

Eventually it started deteriorating again and it was restored in 1978.

Erected in 1923, the 'Hollywoodland' sign was reduced to the simple 'Hollywood' in 1949.

What happened in 1978 was a refurbishment.

It sure looked tatty in the 'Elvis' film !

Didn't know they remarried on May 1st, 1973... Nice try, Priscilla! But this ceremony would have had to take place another 5 months and at least 8 days later in order to be able to bear the title of a "widow" without a doubt
(Since I know the controversial discussion among us fans very well and just in case the above could be misunderstood despite the smileys: I'm just kidding here!)
