Xmas Songs in the UK Top 100 Singles -
18th December, 2020:

99 - It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas - Perry Como - Better than the Buble version !

95 - Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley - He's there for a second week !

91 - Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord - Boney M

88 - Stop the Cavalry - Jona Lewie

84 - The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole - ♪♫ "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire" ♪♫

79 - 2000 Miles - Pretenders - The delectable Chrissy Hynde is back for a second week !

68 - Let it Snow, Let it Snow - Frank Sinatra

67 - White Christmas - Bing Crosby - No Xmas chart is complete without this one !

56 - Cozy Little Christmas - Katy Perry

53 - Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano

52 - Naughty List - Liam Payne ft Dixie D'amelio - I'm guessing this an Xmas song !

47 - Let it Snow, Let it Snow - Dean Martin - It's good to see up-and-coming youngsters in the chart !

46 - Santa Baby - Kylie Minogue - Wot - no Eartha Kitt ?

43 - Christmas Lights - Coldplay

40 - Sleigh Ride - Ronettes - Mrs Spector & the girls with their Xmas offering !

18 - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee - Good to see this original above the Bieber version !

17 - Santa Tell Me - Ariane Grande

16 - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard - It would take a pedant to point out that 'Everyday' should be two words [cough]

13 - Driving Home For Christmas - Chris Rea - Let's hope he isn't on The Road to Hell !

12 - It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas - Michael Buble

11 - Step Into Christmas - Elton John

09 - This Christmas - Jess Glynne

07 - Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid - There were later versions, but it's the 1984 original that charts each year !

06 - Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin' Stevens

05 - Fairytale of New York - The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl - with the original lyrics !

02 - Last Christmas - Wham - Looks like this one will have settle for No.2 again this year !

01 - All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey - She's made it to the top spot on her 27th attempt !
But has she peaked too early for that all-important Xmas No.1 revealed on the 25th ?

It would take a pedant to point out that there's only one Elvis Xmas song ( singular ) in the list. ;)

As can be seen from all my previous posts, it should read Xmas Songs !

Can't imagine how the 'Elvis' bit crept in there !

Now corrected.

On a technical note, how come your 'quote' of my post uses a completely different font from the original ?

I spent some time deciding how exactly I wanted the wording to look !

Now you've explained that readers see it differently, depending on what they are viewing it on !

Shit !

Here's something a bit different.

A US 'Showbiz' site - 'GoldDerby' has listed their top 30 'Best Christmas Songs Ever'.

Fascinating to see how it differs from [or coincides with] the UK usual charting Xmas singles !

30 - Silver Bells - Bob Hope [1951]

29 - Do You Hear What I Hear ? - Whitney Houston [1962]

28 - Carol of the Bells - Mannheim Steamroller [1988]

27 - Home for the Holidays - Perry Como [1954]

26 - Sleigh Ride - Harry Connick Jnr - [no date given]

25 - Jingle Bells - Frank Sinatra [1948]

24 - The Chipmunk Song - The Chipmunks [1958]

23 - Do They Know it's Christmastime ? - Band Aid [1984]

22 - You're a Mean One Mr Grinch - Thurl Ravenscroft [1966]

21 - We Need a Little Christmas - Angela Lansbury [no date given]

20 - Feliz Navidad - Jose Feliciano [1970]

19 - Winter Wonderland - Dean Martin [1934]

18 - Frosty the Snowman - The Ronettes [no date given]

17 - Christmas Time is Here - Vince Guaraldi Trio [1965]

16 - Run Rudolph Run - Chuck Berry [1958]

15 - Merry Christmas Darling - The Carpenters [1970]

14 - Last Christmas - Wham ! [1984]

13 - Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Bruce Springsteen [1975]

12 - It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Andy Williams [1963]

11 - Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms [1957]

10 - Please Come Home For Christmas - The Eagles [1978]

09 - Rocking Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee [1958]

08 - Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives [1964]

07 - All I Want for Christmas is You - Mariah Carey [1994]

06 - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - Gene Autry [1949]

05 - Have Yourselves a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland [1944]

04 - Christmas [Baby Please Come Home] - Darlene Love [1963]

03 - Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley [1957]

02 - The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole [1946]

01 - White Christmas - Bing Crosby [1942]

OK - Just the one Elvis entry, but there are around half-a-dozen connections to our boy there !

Can you spot them ?

The dates they give aren't consistent; sometimes it's the date of the recording [Bruce Springsteen] and
sometimes the date the song was written [Dean Martin]

I've often wondered about this version. Isn't there a version from TOTP in 1977 where he says 'merry Christmas Elvis, wherever you are'?

Well, yes, exactly !

Lots of us remember it, but it never appears anywhere nowadays.

As an aside, I mentioned it was an Elvis-takeoff when the Mud song played on an Xmas audio tape yesterday.

My 21-year-old grandson admitted that he had always assumed that it was Elvis singing it !

Has it ever been anywhere online or showed on telly?

I would bet my underpants that I had seen a video of it but I wasn't quite around in 1977 so couldn't watch it at the time.

It was on Radio 2 at work twice last week a and both times two different people thought it was Elvis singing.

Anyway, he was a Leeds United fan.

I remember the Top of the Pops when he made the Elvis reference, but never seen that version since.
