The Everly Brothers brought the deep tradition of Kentucky music into rock and roll, creating a sound and feel that was 100% original. Hugely well-known and successful yet, I feel, somewhat underrated.
"Love Of My Life", a 1958 b-side penned by the Boudleaux and Felice Bryant team, has always been a big favourite of mine. Such an atmospheric, simple and evocative track, the accapella ending is a real gem. This cut, like so many others by Don & Phil, predates the Merseybeat sound by four or five years.
Thanks for the inspiration, Don & Phil.
