Wouldn't want to cross this lot, would you ? !

Got to give them their due. They are not backing out on something they strongly believe in just for this pandemic situation.

They have my full respect.

I expect they'll appreciate that on their death beds, as will the people they infect. Bloody stupid thing to do.

Some people risk their lives for what they truely believe in.

People went to war knowing they might not come out of it alive. And the people that lost their lives for fighting for their country deserves to be celebrated 75 years later outside for a public display.

If they caught the virus i doubt they will regret doing a street celebration because of it. But then again they may not even catch it....

and you very obviously are not able to separate the two. Wow.

I see the difference quite clearly. One is a different matter than the other.

. Obviously being staunch doesn't appeal to you. Wow indeed.

People losing their lives doesn't appeal to me. It's got nothing to do with being staunch.

People who stand by what they believe in staunch as everything to do with it - loyalty, faithful and commited. A traditional parade that takes place each year to mark an anniversary of something important is quite something that people feel passionate about. I respect that.

So do I, but not when it endangers their lives.

Lukashenko has put the lives of his people in danger by going ahead with this parade. He has ignored the advice from the rest of the world to isolate and protect his people. So he has no respect for human life.

That's what you respect, right?

OK. There's no more to be said.

A Norweigan-British research paper doesn’t claim the virus causing Covid-19 was man-made

During a podcast interview, Telegraph columnist Allison Pearson and her guest, Sir Richard Dearlove (Chief of MI6 between 1999 and 2004), discussed a new research paper on a potential coronavirus vaccine.

Ms Pearson claims that two of the paper’s authors, Birger Sørensen and Angus Dalgleish say that the genetic sequence of the virus means it “was engineered in a laboratory.” Sir Richard then suggests that these claims were included in the paper discussed, which has been “peer-reviewed and printed in a journal which is most prestigious.”

These claims were, reportedly, in an earlier draft of the paper, and Dr Sørensen has since repeated them to Norweigan press.

However, the final version of the research paper, which has undergone peer review and been accepted for publication in the Quarterly Review of Biophysics Discovery, doesn’t actually make any claims about whether the virus was natural or man-made in its current form.

What does the research paper say?

The paper has three authors: Andres Susrud and Dr Sørensen who work at Immunor AS, a Norweigan company that created a potential Covid-19 vaccine the paper is assessing, and Professor Dalgleish, a Professor of Oncology at St George’s University of London. According to the paper, all three authors own shares or have stock options in the company.

The paper begins with a discussion of how the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, came about. The study says that this is an important first step because “mistaken assumptions” about the origin of SARS-CoV-2 “risk creating ineffective or actively harmful vaccines”.

Within this section, the study authors write about data showing that there are “inserted sections placed on the SARS-CoV-2 Spike surface”, which may explain how the virus binds with human cells. The paper in its current published and peer-reviewed form doesn’t say this couldn’t have occurred naturally.

Professor Anne Spurkland, an immunologist from the University of Oslo who was not an author on the paper, told NRK, the Norweigan state broadcaster, that this is not evidence that the virus was man-made. Another vaccine researcher, Gunnveig Grødeland, who was also not involved in the paper, told NRK that these sequences can occur when a virus mutates and are found in other viruses including HIV and other coronaviruses.

So where did these claims come from?

The Telegraph reports that “an earlier version of the paper that it has seen concluded that coronavirus should correctly be called "Wuhan virus" and claimed to have proven "beyond reasonable doubt that the Covid-19 virus is engineered”.

In the podcast interview, Sir Richard says that the paper “has been rewritten many times”.

According to the Telegraph, the paper was initially rejected by leading academic journals, and “was watered down to remove explicit accusations against China, and the rewritten study was then judged to be of sufficient scientific merit.” The Telegraph also writes that “one of the authors, John Fredrik Moxnes, the chief scientific adviser to the Norwegian military, asked for his name to be withdrawn from the research, throwing its credibility into doubt.”

A few days after the Telegraph story was published, NRK published an article in which they spoke to co-author of the paper, Dr Sørensen about the origins of the new coronavirus. It reported that “according to the researchers [Sørensen and Dagleish] sequences in this protein may indicate that the virus does not have a natural origin.”

In the same interview, Dr Sørensen refutes having papers rejected as reported by the Telegraph, saying that the work was divided into two. The published paper, referred to above, is about vaccine development, whilst the second “goes deeper into the question of whether the virus is man-made” and is yet to be published.

Several corrections now appear at the top of that NRK article, including the clarification that the claim that “sequences in the coronavirus spike protein appear to be artificially inserted” was not from the research article but “based on statements from Sørensen to NRK”. These were added after the Norweigan fact checker, Faktisk, asked NRK questions about the article.

As we have written about before, it is widely agreed by scientists that the new coronavirus came from an animal source and could not have been engineered in a lab.

Hey this is bad news. While the rest of the country has improved , the Victoria state has seen increases 4 days in a row now.
Literally 99.5% of the population were doing the right thing and the Premier of that state allow the .5% to f*** the majority. ? Premier Daniel Andrews has been negligent for allowing the Black Live Matter protests to happen. The clown should resign at once as the premier:evil:

Hey you want to see a real clown on a par with the leaders of the USA and Brazil. Well look at this from three days ago.
The Vic premier had the ghoul and attacks my state of South Australia (which leads the country in the fight against Covid-19) basically as we have kept the borders closed to the other states and he wasn't happy about. Well now today we learn that there has been a spike over in Victoria.

This reeks of karma. If i wasn't so serious it would be funny. Premier ANDREWS should resign.

just found this comment. Allowing protests is a DOUBLE STANDARD.

By Steven Kris

I'm disgusted that there is one rule for the protesters and another for the rest of us. The other night my wife and I went to dinner at a restaurant and the police came in to count if there were more than 20 ppl inside. So I approached the police officer and asked if there was more that 20 would the restaurant get a 10k fine his answer was yes. So I asked then why the Victoria Police did not fine the protesters .why the double standards, he told me to move away.

interesting comments by the Sth Australian premier Steve Marshall:

Premier Steven Marshall has declared South Australians must learn to “live with” coronavirus, ahead of a predicted case spike as the country prepares to open borders.

State and territory leaders today agreed to focus on suppressing COVID-19 despite some states, including SA, previously hoping to eliminate it. “After lengthy discussions, all jurisdictions agreed that we needed to maintain our focus on the suppression strategy,” Mr Marshall told The Adver tiser.

“It means we have to live with the coronavirus for a long time – until a vaccine is found.”

He also warned people there “is just no need whatsoever for panic buying”.

Today, 280 Australian citizens are due to arrive at Adelaide Airport from the Indian city of Mumbai.

Health Minister Stephen Wade said SA Health figures showed, based on a subcontinental infection rate of between 5 and 10 per cent, that upon arrival in Adelaide, up to 25 new COVID-19 cases could occur.

Passengers, to arrive via Singapore, will be transported under police escort to the CBD’s Pullman Hotel, where they will spend the next fortnight in quarantine. The hotel remains cordoned off.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said the hotel quarantine system was suitable, despite concerns interstate about guards becoming infected with the virus.

Defence Force staff will arrive in Adelaide tomorrow to help with the hotel quarantine.

Premier Steven Marshall doubled down on his commitment to open borders to all states, if it was safe to do so, as he stressed it was not possible to “wrap the entire economy in cottonwool” for the foreseeable future.

“We are in the midst of a global pandemic and elimination would not be advantageous to the overall Australian economy,” he said.

“Work is being done now on vaccines, and also new treatments, but these are still some way off.

“So we have got to accept that we are living with COVID-19 for the foreseeable future and we have got to get the balance right during this time – a balance between health, social and economic factors.”

He urged South Australians to continue their measured response as reports emerged from Victoria of people again panic-buying toilet paper.

“There was a lot of panic in the early days of COVID-19 here in South Australia,” Mr Marshall said.

“As people are now well aware, we did not run out of toilet paper, we did not run out of rice, we did not run out of pasta.

“The supply lines for these products are secure in this country, so there is just no need whatsoever for panic buying.”

Mr Stevens, Mr Wade and Mr Marshall also assured South Australians that significant care was being taken to ensure any further lifting of border restrictions was done safely.

Mr Marshall said the transition committee over the coming days would look “very closely” at relaxing borders with the ACT and New South Wales.

He said the committee would also investigate relaxing restrictions for visitors from Broken Hill and western Victoria.

Far out. So what was the point of all the hard work including lockdown , social distancing measures previously only to now be told that our borders are to be open to states with known coronavirus and in essence to suck it up as this virus will be part of our lives now.

Don't raise the white flag Premier and drop your guard now, look whats happening across the border in Melbourne, do we want Adelaide to end up in the same mess?

Keep the borders closed until all cases of the virus are gone in Victoria. We have no cases in SA - the envy of the world when it comes to the managemment of the virus - so why risk bringing them in?
