It's simple.

Tom Jones
was in the shower in 1971.

Tommy Steele approached him & told him all about the London meeting with Elvis in 1958/9.

Tom Jones [with soap in his eyes] mistakenly recalls this as being Elvis talking.

It's the sort of error anyone could make...

How many people can fit in a bathroom with Elvis?

:D

Depends if they're all soaped up or not.

Tom will be getting ideas.

It's not unusual (OK, OK, so I've used it before....)

It was more crowded than usual on this day because the rumour was that a very sweaty Ann-Margret was in attendance...

News announced today that Tommy Steele has been awarded a knighthood !

I've got the decorators in at the moment & when I broke the news, I got the response:

"Who's Tommy Steele ?"

Not that I agree with these things particularly, but why has it taken longer for him to get it than Mick Jagger (seriously?), Cliff Richard, Tom Jones, and a bunch of other showbiz people?

The whole 'By Royal Appointment' scheme is riddled with anomalies.

Donors to the Tory Party can 'buy' a knighthood if they are generous enough.

The scheme is surely 'unfit for purpose'

It should be scrapped. I've got no problem with recognising people who have done something worthwhile, but this whole knighthood thing is crap.

Since Tommy Steele is virtually an unknown outside the U.K. I bought a box with 4 of his movies on DVD.
These were entertaining to watch. Some were black and white and some were in colour.
Funny thing is that a supposed to be rock and roll movie featured jazz bands like Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen!
His singing is reasonable, so is his acting. Well, he plays "Tommy Steele" in all movies. One is even called "The Tommy Steele story".
Whenever I watch an Elvis movie I do not see the character he plays but "Elvis Presley".
Same with Cliff Richard's movies.

Tommy Steele was a very bad rock and roller...terrible in fact, but he was a great stage performer and good in the movies that suited his skills and talent. I saw him in a West End play many years ago, but I can't remember what it was.

One of his big hits was Little White Bull.

Tommy claims to have shown Elvis around London one night when Elvis was stationed in Germany. I call it Little White Bullshit.

There will always be people who tell fairytales about their (non-existent) association with Elvis.
In the 80's Belgian country singer Jimmy Lawton upon hearing I was an Elvis fan told me the story that as a kid he co-starred with Elvis in "Viva Las Vegas" where he had to kick Elvis' leg.
He suddenly remembered he had an important appointment elsewhere and has to rush off when I told him it was "It happened at the world's fair" and the kid was Kurt Russell.
I could keep the 4 or 5 signed LP's though.

Mostly Tom Jones with his constant made up stories designed to put elvis down and make look Tom superior.
Even though he met Elvis. His stories have gone overboard as time was marching on.

And don't get me started on Petula Clark and how Elvis was dying to have a treesome with her and Karen Carpenter.
Ough....
Still, I detest Tom more for his put downs which he sneaks in in his "storytelling".

I dig Tom Jones. I would never buy one of his records, but I saw him in concert three times (!) in the 00's because my partner likes him and I was blown away by his on stage craftsmanship and his vocal skills. Back then, I thought it was the closest thing to seeing Elvis on stage, which I will never do.

No?
His story of elvis taking a dump while he in the shower and he wiped his ass with a towel?
Even if true, and I highly doubt that given how discreet elvis was in many ways....he surely wouldn't have take a dump while in the same room, it is disrespectful to say the least to offer that.
And how about when he claimed that elvis told him that he let his background singers do the work hitting all the high notes instead of elvis himself so he could save his voice?
Tom of course, told elvis that Tom does that by himself and not let background do the work.
Besides, that is false and you can hear on most live shows that elvis himself hits the high notes, this story is designed to make tom look superior,.
If you in all in that can't see a put down than I can't help you.
