The reason he wasn't recognised was that he didn't get out of the car !

Well, he was famous & the London visit was top secret.
He'd have been recognised, mobbed & end up in the headlines next day !

Old Tommy Steele must have had a bang on the head.

All the other places you mention were visited by Elvis quite openly.
That was my point.
The London visit was a well-kept secret !
Tommy Steele did a great job in keeping the whole thing under wraps at the time !
Odd that he's the only one who knew about it !
John wrote:...What I want to know is why hasn’t Tom Jones told us about this meeting?
John wrote:The latest Vintage Rock has an article about a new Tommy Steele biog. The interview with the biographer Sebastian Lassandro, mentions El’s 1958 (wasn’t this previously 1959?) visit to London “will, I feel, forever be a closely guarded secret.” He then goes on to say they certainly met in 1971 when Tommy was performing at Caesars Palace. They apparently got through 10 Cokes and 4 hamburgers talking about Roy Orbison and agreed that he was the best rock singer in the world.
What I want to know is why hasn’t Tom Jones told us about this meeting?

It's simple.
Tom Jones was in the shower in 1971.
Tommy Steele approached him & told him all about the London meeting with Elvis in 1958/9.
Tom Jones [with soap in his eyes] mistakenly recalls this as being Elvis talking.
It's the sort of error anyone could make...

Depends if they're all soaped up or not.
