So Long, Lew Williams

Postby Mister Moon » Sun Sep 08, 2019 5:22 pm

According to the latest Bear Family Newsletter, released yesterday, rockabilly legend Lew Williams passed away on September 1 at the age of 85.

He recorded for several labels over the years, but he is mostly remembered for the four singles he had released on Imperial between 1956 and 1957.

This one is an underground classic :

There is an interesting CD released by Bear Family in 1999 which covers most, if not all, of his stuff, including lots of unreleased recordings, and a big booklet, all done in cooperation with the man himself :

Yes, they were.

That Bear Family CD is very interesting. It has all eight Imperial sides, his earlier Flair single, and a few primitive versions of Imperial tracks. Also, there are later tracks, including a couple cut in Nashville with Hank Garland and all the cats, including The Jordanaires. A great release.

I don't have the Bear Family Lew Williams CD. But I do have the "That'll Flat Git It" CD which has the Lew Williams imperial sides, not all 8 though.
