So would you say the Star-Club album would be a reflection of what you witnessed ?

The song list was certainly similar [it would be wouldn't it ?] but he didn't draw such a large enthusiastic crowd in Brighton like he did in Germany !

Mister Moon is right. The ones he's named had that magic, original feel for rock 'n' roll.

For a short while in the UK, before Elvis burst on the scene, Bill Haley was rock 'n' roll !

I remember actually dancing in the aisle at the showing of the Rock Around The Clock film.

Listening to his stuff now, it hasn't lasted well, but the history can't be re-written...

This is one of my favorite CDs ever with 1950s music and probably the best sounding of them all.

Saw Jerry Lee just once, in 2015 at Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA.

Jacob Tolliver opened the show and he was fantastic.

Jerry Lee had a very good night. Performed around 40 minutes and sounded great.

I've yelled "I love you Jerry!!!" from my seat and he replied "I love you too".

I am jealous of Colin who saw him in 1964 but still pleased I experienced one of his concerts.

I don't know if it's scathing. We all know he was a bastard, but then again, so are lots of people. The thing is, none of this effected us personally, his behaviour was too distant from any of us. Has he been a paedophile, that would have been an entirely different thing. There were vague accusations of murder, but it was never proved...yet.

All we could judge him by was the music.

Ivory Joe Hunter wrote and recorded "Since I Met You Baby" for Atlantic in 1956, and the single went to number 1 in the R&B charts and almost a Top Ten in the Pop charts.

There have been dozens of versions of this song, from Sam Cooke to Bobby Vee, but I doubt any of them tops Jerry Lee's 1969 reading. The ending is out of this world :

It was 'scathing' by the standard of an obituary, which would usually tend to present the deceased in a good light...

His self-titled 1979 album with Rockin' My Life Away was probably my favourite and i was very happy when he did that when i saw him live.

"I'm Throwing Rice (At The Girl That I Love)" was a watz-tempo song, co-written and originally recorded by Eddy Arnold - a number 1 C&W hit in 1949 that was also successfully covered by Red Foley that same year. Jerry tried it at Sun in 1958 also as a slow number, but the recording remained unissued for many years.

During the recording sessions for the 1988 biopic, Jerry rescued the song again, but this time with an uptempo arrangement. The track was briefly used in the movie, but not released in the soundtrack album. It surfaced a couple of years later in an unofficial release.

It's an outstanding recording, unmistakably Jerry Lee, from beginning to end. Love that brief moment of chaos after the piano solo, and the messed-up ending :

I'm a bit late to the topic, but would like to place on record my appreciation for the man, for the many songs that have brought me joy and pleasure. Apart from E the biggest collection of music I have is of JLL.

Favorites ? Way too many to mention, but here are some that I play very often:
Pee Wees Place
Chantilly Lace
39 and Holding
You win again
Promised Land
I saw him live three times, twice with Chuck Berry & Little Richard on the Bill. Sadly, they were all throw away listless performances. Still the thrill of seeing him and the others was fabulous.
Keep Rockin Killer.

Wow, quite a find. Thank you.

That's a very interesting documentary. Incredible footage - I've never seen him do "Big Legged Woman" before. Also, this includes the virtually entire footage from his TV debut, which is often edited. That footage, no matter how many times I see it, and despite that Allen clown, is just stunning. Oh, that's J. W. Brown (Myra's dad) on bass, and Russell Smith on drums. How things had changed in just 12 months. Elvis was not allowed to rip it up during his Allen appearance. They had changed their minds by now. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, you know.

This has already been removed. Glad I saved it. Thanks again, John.

I don't recall this being posted before.

This is truly sensational silent colour footage of Jerry Lee rippin' it up on stage in 1959 :

"Killer on Tour"

Saw him about five times LIVE and he's the best in the field of Rock-Country and Gospel.

I saw him just once, in 1985, as I mentioned elsewhere. I just remembered that in 1991 I saw his younger sister, Linda Gail Lewis performing live. I had heard some of the stuff she had done, both solo and as a duet singer with Jerry, and didn't think much of her really, so I was skeptical, but I must admit she knocked me out that night. Her repertoire was almost 100% full-tilt rock and roll, most of the songs being associated with her brother. Very very good show. Years later she recorded a duet album with Van Morrison, which was pretty cool, also filled with JLL references.
