‘The First Noel’ (aka ‘The First Noël’ or ‘The First Nowell’) is a traditional English Christmas carol, from Cornwall, probably dating back to the early modern times (16th-17th century), though it might even be older.
The oldest print appears in
Carols Ancient and Modern (1823) and
Gilbert and Sandys Carols (1833), edited by William Sandys.
