Interestingly, while Cowboy Cowpas recorded the song first, his version wasn’t released until March 1948. Pee Wee King’s version was recorded later, but released earlier (Jan 25, 1948) than Cowpas’ rendition.

I remember listening to Tennessee Waltz on the radio when I was a small lad [this would have been late 1940s].

The words worried me.

Seemed like you could have a girlfriend & you could lose her in the simple act of her dancing with an old friend of yours !

The grown-up world was such dangerous place !

I wasn't sure I ever wanted to go there...

A puzzle.

This song is called Tennessee Waltz but was there a previous Tennessee Waltz song that the lyric says they were dancing to ?

Or was that just a dance step they did down in Tennessee ?
