Postby Steve Grayson '67 » Tue Nov 17, 2015 7:03 pm

Lowell Fulson (March 31, 1921 – March 7, 1999)_ was a big-voiced blues guitarist and songwriter, in the West Coast blues tradition. Fulson was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also recorded for business reasons as Lowell Fullsom and Lowell Fulsom. After T-Bone Walker.
Fulson was the most important figure in West Coast blues in the 1940s and 1950s

First recorded: Lowell Fulson, Sept. 27, 1954, Dallas, TX.

Released as 78rpm & 45 rpm by Checker (804) in 1954. Flipside: ‘I Believe I’ll Let You Go’.

‘Reconsider Baby’, sometimes known under other titles after the song’s opening line (‘So long, oh, how I hate to see you go’), was Lowell Fulson’s wistful goodbye and plea to a departing lover, with a lyrical message so strong (and memorable music to match) that it became a standard in the modern-day blues repertoire.

’Reconsider Baby’ spent 15 weeks during 1954 and 1955 on Billboard's Rhythm & Blues Records Chart where it reached number 3.

Inducted in The Blues Hall of Fame, in the "Classics of Blues Recordings" category.

Inducted in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, on its list of the "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll".

"The Cash Box" gave Fulson's record a "Very Good" (B) rating upon release :

Thanks, MM, for those nice additions. I’ve added the Cax Box review to my little notebook of ‘First In Line’. If I have time, and enough energy,* I’d like to make booklets for myself with that sort of ‘First In Line’ info. Plus info on Elvis’ recording of it. In a sort of ‘factsheet’ style. One day Maybe.

* Still a huge difference between posting something on a messageboard and systematically writing down that info in a coherent format.
