Here’s a background story. Don’t know how much of it is true.

Dorsey said of writing "Peace in the Valley," "It was just before Hitler sent his war chariots into Western Europe in the late 1930s. I was on a train going through southern Indiana and saw horses, cows and sheep all grazing together in this little valley. Everything seemed so peaceful. It made me question, "What's the matter with mankind? Why can't men live in peace?" Out of those thoughts came "Peace in the Valley."

He later said he wrote the song for the famed Mahalia Jackson, known as the queen of gospel.

The latter version, i.e. that Dorsey wrote it for Mahalia Jackson, is mentioned several times on other sites too.
Don't take yourself too seriously ;-)

It started out as the simple Peace in the Valley.

No need to add the rather silly bits in brackets: [There'll Be] Peace in the Valley [For Me]:

Take a listen to Red Foley's version from 1951, folks :

As seen in the label posted above, Foley is backed by The Sunshine Boys Quartet. Incidentally, there are photos from August 1957 where they can be seen singing with Elvis at Graceland.

Can we guess one of the songs they sang that day ? :)
