I'm Yours

Postby Stevenson » Tue Jun 04, 2019 9:35 am

A nice (but somewhat pale) ballad written and submitted by Don Robertson for a movie Blue Hawaii (wedding scene), but other song chosen for finale.
I've found Robertson's version of the song, so here it is:

Thanks for that Stevenson. It's interesting that they've put a Hawaiian slant on it, not surprisingly.

I'm puzzled. If this is just a demo, it's interesting to see that it's already been assigned to Gladys Music, it's on the RCA label with a catalogue number and it looks like a regular release, but it says "not for sale". Was it prepared as a single release?

The song was written for the wedding scene (scene 250) in the movie Blue Hawaii but rejected in the pre-selection. Later on recorded by Elvis n the studio on 26 june 1961.
Don Robertson recorded his version in august 1968 (RCA 47-9721).

He recorded more of his own songs originanally recorded by Elvis later on like: Anything that's part of you – recorded 5 november 1962 (RCA LSP 3348).

Cheers colonel snow. I have Don's Songs For Elvis album released in 2003, and I'm surprised I'm Yours isn't on there.

I wonder if Elvis got to hear the Don Robertson demo when it was submitted for consideration in Blue Hawaii ?

He recorded the soundtrack songs for that film in March, 1961, & eventually did I'm Yours at the 'Pot Luck' sessions in June that year.

It's ironic that the rejected film song ended up, years later, in an Elvis film anyway - Tickle Me in 1965 ...

Look like your question has already been answered by other members...
Just on a side note: if I remember correctly, Don Robertson's demos were primarily done with basic arrangement (just piano & vocal) - just like No More from Writing for the King FTD; since this is the song from the same period, this recording is definetely not the demo version, but professional recording of his own.
