This version by Wilson Pickett, recorded November 1968, is just too good to be true.

I can imagine Lennon and, especially, McCartney listening to this for the very first time :

That's great !

Elvis just never nailed that 'screaming' crescendo bit, did he ?

With a properly thought-out & arranged version, with the full lyrics in front of him, he might have done it better justice.

Yes, it's a tremendous record. Wilson really rips it up there. Tom Jones' version is directly lifted from this one.

I'm not sure this song was really suited for Elvis' style. Sure, he could have done a much better version that what he did.
