Thank you. Didn’t know that.

Here’s a clip of the original recording:

Years later, Roy Brown lived some hard times financially, and had to sell all the rights to his songs for next to nothing, including those for "Good Rockin' Tonight".

Somebody asked him about it years later, suggesting he had lost lots of money just because of the Elvis version, and he answered something like it didn't matter, because it was just one of Presley's earliest records that had not been a big hit.

Sounds like 'sour grapes' to me...

I remember a interview with Roy Brown in "Now Dig This" a few years ago. In it he talked about "Good Rockin' Tonight" and the interviewer said, Elvis Presley doing it must've made a difference for you" (meaning royalties) Roys reply was "no, Pat Boone's one did better because it was a B side of a million seller". But I'm sure he did get some nice cheques from Elvis' version, plus the many versions that came after it. Which makes me wonder why he sold the rights to the song, unless he was seriously ripped off which is probably the case considering King records' owner.

That said, love Roys and Wynonies versions.

Top performance by Elvis though.
