The original version was recorded in 1965 by Tommy Tucker (Checker 1067).

High heel sneakers is the title on Elvis' single.

Tommy Tucker’s ‘Hi Heel Sneakers’ reached #1 in The Cash Box R&B charts on March 7, 1964.

Tommy Tucker’s original was inducted in the Blues Hall Of Fame in 2017:

“Hi-Heel Sneakers” by Tommy Tucker was the last blues record from the mighty Chess Records catalogue to hit No. 1 on the charts. Recorded in New York in 1963, the single on Chess’ Checker subsidiary label topped the Cash Box magazine R&B charts in 1964. Tucker’s enticement to “put on your red dress” and hi-heel sneakers has resounded on countless bandstands ever since.

Great song, thanks, Sus, and good to know.

Tommy's original rendition sounds watered down to me, what a great song he wrote; of course Elvis growls the song, so to speak, and gives it life and feeling. Need to put on those hi heeled sneakers.

Thank you, MM.
One of the reasons I like First In Line is that you can compare the original to Elvis’ version, and evaluate if and how he changed it. And you get to learn other artists, their music, etc. I enjoy that. Cheers!

Very true, Sus, as it was not long ago when I thought that quite a few of Elvis' songs were written for him.

So, it is good to know better.

Thank you.

We first got the Elvis version of High Heel Sneakers on the flip of the 1968 single release of Guitar Man.

And what a revelation !

After years of weak soundtrack stuff we got a proper rockin' bluesy song !

And Elvis gives a blistering rendition !

Can't fault the song or the treatment he gives it !

Such a great song!

Elvis' version rocks like hell.

Tucker's is cool.

There is a really obscure one by Cross Section used in the film Quadrophrena.
