Gentle on my mind

The original recording version was recorded on 3 february 1967 by John Hartford (RCA 47-9175).

Elvis rings a lot more meaning out of the lyric by slowing things down the way he did.

Dean Martin also did this song before Elvis in 1968.

Elvis' version is just amazing. Just love Reggie Young's opening guitar licks.

Was the Elvis version the only one to slow the tempo down ?

If there were others, was it the first one ?

There's no gravitas to this. Sinatra did not get into this song, nor did he get into the persona of the storyteller. To this day I have yet to hear a better version than Elvis'.
