His latest flame

The original version was recorded on 21 june 1961 by Del Shannon for an album.

Elvis recorded his version just 5 days later !

Most likely not aware of Del's version.

Thanks, C Snow. I listened to both Del and Elvis, versions of this song. What I like about both is, You can hear each word sung. You know what the story telling is about.

This great song is almost forgotten. It's B side is the more memorable.

Elvis' best single of the 60s, I think.

Elvis selected songs for recording by listening to demo versions (over and over if he like a song).
When Elvis recorded a selected song it’s nearly always very close to the demo-version.

Yes.

Not being able to read music, the only way he could learn a song was by listening to a version of it.

Although the versions he came up with were based on the arrangements on the demos, he always put his own stamp on things !
