By the time I get to Phoenix

Postby colonel snow » Fri May 17, 2019 9:36 pm

Elvis sung one-liners in concert on several dates in february 1971.

The original version was recorded on 03-10-66 by Johnny Rivers (LP);

Other early versions:
00-07-67 - Pat Boone (Dot 17045);
17-08-67 - Glen Campbell (Capitol 2015).

I remember a Vegas concert from Feb 1971, where he sings that onliner ‘By the time I got to Phoenix’, adding ‘you’ll be pregn...’. An allusion to the paternity suit?
Don't take yourself too seriously ;-)

Glen Campbell's version is one of my favourites, and it's a song I really like singing while playing my guitar.
