The original version was recorded on 15-09-15 by Ernestine Schumann-Heink on the Victor label; this recording is lost / destroyed.

Another recording was done on 29-11-15 by Florence Hinkle for Victor label but this recording is also lost / destroyed.

Marked as original version is the recording on 26-09-17 by Ernestine Schumann-Heink (Victor 6276 / Victrola 6276 / Victor 88592 / Victrola 88592).

They still haven't really found out exactly what the lyrics mean !

At school, we used to sing the same tune [Londonderry Air] as a hymn with words that were just as baffling: 'O, Son of Man, our hero strong & tender'.

No idea what that was all about...

The meaning is in the ear (and mind) of the listener!
