Clambake souvenir package
The Colonel, never one to miss a promotional opportunity, was likely the mastermind behind this souvenir package for Elvis' 1967 feature film Clambake . Directed by Arthur Nadel and co-starring Shelley Fabares and Bill Bixby, Clambake is the story of the heir to an oil fortune who trades places with a Florida water ski instructor to see if the girls will be attracted to him for his personality rather than his family money. The film was distributed by United Artists in October of 1967 and reached number 15 on the weekly box office charts.
The offered souvenir package, which was likely given out as a promotion at the premiere or preview screening, is held in a large manila envelope with "Compliments of ELVIS and the Colonel" printed in large letters across the bottom. The envelope still contains its contents: an original 1967 RCA pocket calendar card, two RCA record brochure catalogs, and an original black-and-white movie photograph film still with typed identifier on the reverse which measures approximately 8 by 10 inches (20.32 x 25.4 cm). This stunning collection also includes a United Artists press book with "Publicity Material" and "Exploitation Material," a full-color 11 by 14 inch (27.94 x 35.56 cm) lobby card, six black-and-white film stills each measuring 8 by 10 inches (20.32 x 25.4 inches) and two full-color lobby cards measuring approximately 8 by 10 inches (20.32 x 25.4 cm). The entire grouping is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
