Rare 1962 Girls! Girls! Girls! Massive Theater Lobby Display Featuring Elvis Presley.3A5D6F08-7735-4DFF-88A7-FD80B5FDC0BD.jpeg
From Graceland Auctions:
The offered larger-than-life, original cardboard cutout theater display bears an image similar to the movie poster, but this would have stood in the theater lobby to capture the attention of female and male fans alike.
On the large display, an almost life-size Elvis with guitar is flanked by co-stars Laurel Goodwin and Stella Stevens and touts “The Swingin Est Elvis / The Fastest Movin Fun N Music / World’s Curviest / Girls Girls Girls” appealing to audience-goers of every gender. The standing advertisement also promoted Elvis’ RCA album of the same name, with “13 Tuneful Songs!”
It is unusual for such a mammoth display to survive use, much less the trials of time, and this colorful example is intact, with its paper bottom mimicking the movie poster’s color treatment of stills from the movie, and its original cardboard shipping container bearing a Paramount Pictures label from 1501 Broadway in New York. Based on the addressee, this display was sent to Paramount Film Dist. Corp in Charlotte, North Carolina. When fully erected in the theater lobby, this monumental display would have stood more than 6 feet (182.88 cm) tall!
The display and box have suffered relatively heavy water damage, but fortunately the majority of the impact is on the reverse. While the paper has wrinkled in areas and there is some visible staining on the left and right edges, the front of the display presents relatively cleanly.
