When someone posts that such-and-such a single reached No.1 [or whatever] we have to try & remember if they're from the US, UK,
Oz, or somewhere in Europe...Mister Moon wrote:Isn't the UK somewhere in Europe too ?
OK - I could have worded that:
'somewhere else in Europe'
or
'somewhere on mainland Europe'
Putting the pedantry aside for a moment, do you understand my point ?
Sure.
There's also the possibility that some members don't want to exhibit their real location.
Or maybe some others find it funny to write some Elvis-related stuff, like me and SM.
Sure, I get your point too, Colin.
I'm not shy to mention my real location; in fact, I've filled it in earlier, but I find my 'phony' location funnier, that's all. Other people might simply not wish to reveal their true location, for whatever reason, even if it's just their country.
If someone who doesn't mention his/her real location posts that Elvis' single x, y or z reached n°1, without further specification, I'd assume he/she is talking about the US, as Elvis was an American artist. (If he/she would be talking about Beatles, without further specification, I'd assume he/she is talking about the UK, as it was a British band.) However, if he/she is talking about Elvis charts in his/her own country, say Italy, without mentioning that, either directly in the post or indirectly in his contact info, well, he/she can't expect others would know that. Simple as that, imo. In any case, I'll mention my country when/if it's relevant/necessary for my post to be understood. And please, don't let me be misunderstood
