The funny thing is, here, in my rural suburb, some people have them (I don't know why, but they do).
They should have asked me. A friend of mine was the promotions manager for a large cash and carry, they were promoting Tilda rice and he asked if I knew of where he could get an elephant, I said I'd do it, not knowing where I'd get one. I called Billy Smarts circus and managed to hire one. The next request was for a camel. I got one of those too.
Then there were flamenco dancers, jazz bands, (booked the Temperance Sever, for anyone that remembers them), and all sorts of other stuff.

That would have been such a novelty back then, and I am sure people loved it and the cash and carry's business would have boomed.
