Roustabout Australian daybill

image.jpeg

From the collection of “Rockin’” Robin Rosaaen. This fine Australian poster promotes the 1964 release of Roustabout. The artwork is a departure from the U.S. posters for the film (as is the case with most Aussie daybills), with a unique rendering of Elvis and his two leading ladies that’s purposefully reminiscent of early circus posters and possibly a nod to the film’s theme. While it employs the U.S. posters’ declaration that our hero is a “Roving, Restless, Reckless Roustabout,” we see the simple bold colors and letterpress print style that was used to attract fans old and young to see what was happening under the big top. The poster measures 30 by 13 inches (76.2 x 33.02 cm) and is displayed in a frame that measures 36 1/2 by 20 inches (92.71 x 50.8 cm).

Roustabout script & 2 lobby cards

1964 Roustabout Final White Script Dated February 7, 1964 - With Two Lobby Cards

image.jpeg

The movie script evolution includes many stages. This is the “final white” version for Roustabout in which all blue or yellow additions, correction, and replacements have been rerun on white paper stock (with a slight blue tint). The motion picture name is both typed and handwritten on the title page. Also on that page, “SF 83090 / Wallis-Paramount-Hazen” is typed at the top center and “FINAL WHITE / Screenplay by Allan Weiss / February 7, 1964” in the lower left corner. The final white script, coming from one of the film crew and on typed pages measuring approximately 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm).

The lot also included two full-color lobby cards from the film, each measuring approximately 8 by 10 inches (20.32 x 25.4 cm).

I'm not sure that they're from Roustabout; but that's what the pinterester says.

Does that word exist: a pinterester? A person who puts piccies on Pinterest.

There's nothing strange here; the producer tried out several wardrobes before the final decision was made which clothing was used in the movie.
When the final decision is made they make a wardrobe still (picture with production number date - actor's name - character - scene number).
This information isn't on the pictures here. (see examples in Jailhouse rock- movie)

What is strange is that none of the costumes match any of the scenes from Roustabout !
