Love the page! That's awesome. Lots of great pictures, and I don't recall seeing the solo closeup of Elvis before. Good stuff!
Interesting story about the session - I got to meet Carl in 1996 at Darwin Lamm's Elvis International concert (it was either called that or "Good Rockin' Tonight") and I asked him about that night. I was kinda obsessed with MDQ, so I had to ask him about it. He said that, at the time, they didn't know the tape was still running, and (iirc) didn't know until it was bootlegged. He also said that, while Johnny Cash was on his way (since Sam called him and told him to get his butt down there, lol), Carl noticed Jerry making for the door. Carl stopped him and said "What are you doing? Sam wants a picture of all of us for the paper and Johnny's on his way." Jerry said, "I'm here to play piano and get paid. If I'm not gettin' paid, I'm not staying!" So Carl gave him money to stay - I thought he said $20, but that seems pretty high in 1956 so that part might be wrong.
Really puts Jerry's "wow, this is fun!" line that we hear in a whole other light! lol
12/05 EDIT: Looked it up, $20 back then was $170-180ish today, so that actually checks out on the low end for a session musician payment. So $20 it is!
