My understanding is that he was interested enough in it to attend an interview with them.

Came out remarking that they were only out to take his money & that wasn't going to happen !

From the UK Newspaper 'i' - 2nd June 2022:

Wouldn't happen in the UK !

When Priscilla tried to stop the UK's Sid Shaw from using Elvis' name & image on his merchandise,
the judge threw the case out saying "A well-known performer's name & image can't be a trademark !"

I reckon they're doing the right thing.

The solution ?

Rename them as "Rock 'n' Roll" weddings, & keep the officials dressed as Elvis !

The Estate can't stop anyone dressing in the 'Elvis-style' !

They probably can't. All I'm saying is that if someone in your family was being used for commercial purposes after their death, you'd probably want to control how their image was used.

But in the US, they've trademarked his actual name !

That's a step too far, as witnessed by the UK law courts.

I agree, you can't trademark a person's name. Does that mean no other person can ever be called Elvis Presley? I might just trademark John Smith. However, I fully understand the move to protect the image.

I wondered if you buy any magazine or newspaper that to your knowledge, carries a story on Elvis.

i don't think Elvis has been so much in the news - including on-line and YouTube - since his death. The promotion of the new film seems to have been full-on.
