After years and years of discussing Elvis' film career as a failure, I've come around to accepting it for what it was. "It is what it is". Some films are very strong - Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, Flaming Star; some are very enjoyable light entertainment - Follow That Dream, Kid Galahad; some are interesting just for being different - Charro, Change of Habit.

At the time you had to find a (local) cinema that showed an Elvis movie, then travel to tht cinema, buy a ticket, watch the pre show news and cartoons, sit through a break and then finally the movie started.
You saw the movie on the big screen once or as many times as you bought a ticket.
So watching an Elvis movie was an evening long experience.

Not in The Netherlands.
YOu only got 1 movie plus cartoons, a newsreel, commercials and a collection for charity during the break.
As soon as that charity movie started, you knew there was a break.
During the break you could buy a drink and a bag of chips* (*called crisps in some parts of the world) or another snack and then the bell would ring and you had to go back to your seat to see the movie.
Before the whole show started, they would play music. Before Elvis' movies it always would be the quieter songs instead of rock and roll, to avoid people getting so extited they would demolish the cinema.

There were enough glimpses to show he had talent and more potential. King Creole is a good example of his dramatic skills, FTD a nice example of his comedic skills, and VLV shows he could be a lightweight romantic lead.

What about them? I didn't know about such things back then, and obviously I am talking about my experience.

Back then, male ones were 'queers', 'poofters' or 'cissies' with females being 'dykes'.

Thankfully, those days are long gone & we are more accepting, tolerant, & understanding about the whole "LGBTQIA+" scene these days.
