They’ve buggered up his album covers constantly. We should have a parade of them here, including of course HGTA with a Girls Girls Girls publicity shot from 4 years previously.

I feel only 2 Elvis album covers can now be called iconic. The first album and Gold Records Vol 2. The others seemed to have just been as generic and Bland as possible. I've mentioned it before but Raised on Rock is possibly the worst album cover of all time not just Elvis.

I think Aloha From Hawaii, Separate Ways and one or two others are worse.

At least some design effort was done with them. Better than close up movie headshot or live shot on black background.

Elvis Country at least showed some imagination. But I'm not defending them. Rca didn't know how to handle a star like Elvis. They were totally inappropriate to be his record company

I love the front cover of the second album, too.

And the back cover notes by Chick Crumpacker are a joy to read, no matter how many times you read them.

Is that Elvis pic from 1969 ?

In trying to 'quote' I seem to have messed things up a tad here...

No, this is the UK sleeve for the original release:

My apologies, all fingers & thumbs today.

The 'original' sleeve you've posted is actually the 1979 re-issue.

The 1971 release is the one I posted with the little Xmas drawings.

RCA will never be accused of being overly creative when it came to the album art on their Elvis lp’s. Even though the 68 photo might be out of place on FEIM , that photo is embedded in my brain. After so many years I can’t imagine a different cover. At least they used a current and flattering image of him. I guess I always thought it was a pretty cool photo.

It's a cool photo all right, but it has always been and felt wrong to me.

It's a shame a quality image isn't available but I've always liked this shot of Elvis for an album cover...
