My copy came a week or two ago. I’ve enjoyed it, but the shipping charge was crazy!

I haven’t bought anything from USA for that same reason for a long time.
Crazy.

Yes, buying stuff from USA has become prohibitive. It's always been expensive, but right now it borders on laughable.

Just recently, I decided to purchase a big book that I had wanted for so long, as it was offered half its usual price (which is $120) by the publisher in New York City. So I was ready to pay around $60, when I saw that Air-Mail postage to Europe was well over the price of the book itself.

No way I was going to pay that.

I had already made up my mind to have the book, so I had to have it from somebody else. I found Bear Family selling it at its usual price, but postage was only 7 Euros, which means I ended up saving a bunch of money, not to mention the fact that the package arrived in less than one week.

I enjoyed it too.

Edit addition to original post:

I think this does Elvis justice especially for new generations who don't get the original mono sound. They think it sounds strange. This is the quality of audio they are used to hearing.

I agree, playing it loud on good speakers it sure has an impact.

I read that with interest. Thank you.

One question - how do you know "Just Because" was the last song to be recorded at the "Good Rockin' Tonight" session. Are we even sure both songs were recorded the same day ?

Great question!!!
I wasn't there and there is no complete paperwork and in reality we can't be sure that both songs were recorded the same day.
You are right.
However I was just going off Ernst Jorgensen's 2004 session notes, "'Just Because' was most likely the last song of the session".
In Boy From Tupelo he also notes two different tempo versions were recorded. They would be great to have.
Anyway it fitted nicely with the (my) narrative of listening to the songs - "Bill Black’s fingers must have been bleeding by the end of it."
They would have certainly needed a break after it. :D :D

Cheers
Piers

Unfortunately, many aspects of Elvis' days at Sun are, as they say, "clouded with mystery". That's one of the reasons it is so suggestive.

Just got my copy today.

First impressions:

Great sound - I don't think they can improve the original tapes any better than this.

An essential purchase !

What we want now is the outtakes in stereo !

"Tomorrow Night"

Just the one take made for this song.

The original tape had an odd 'instrumental' break with just rhythm accompaniment heard.

No doubt it was intended to add other instruments later [overdubs on Sun ?]

The first released version was in 1965 on the Elvis For Everyone album & had overdubs, recorded on 18th March, 1965, which included
Chet Atkins & Grady Martin on guitars & vocals from the Anita Kerr Singers .

In 1985, we got an odd version on the Reconsider Baby album which had the 'instrumental' break edited out, but kept the playing time
more-or-less the same by repeating some of the vocals.

Not until 1992 did we get the original untampered master on the 5-CD set: 50's Masters.

That's the version presented here in stereo.

"Just Because"

All the early releases of this track had the opening 'Well' slightly clipped.

But the version on the 2012 release: A Boy From Tupelo which was re-mastered by Sebastian Jeansson, was the first to have the clipped
beginning put right - by inserting an unclipped bit from later in the recording.

It's the corrected version presented here in stereo.

I seem to recall that they took a bit from Good Rockin' Tonight, and that's what it says on Keith's site too.

Oh, right, thanks !

My post would be better if it read "first to have the clipped beginning put right by inserting a bit from elsewhere"

I'm better informed now.

I was right the first time !

The clipped opening 'Well' on Just Because was corrected with a bit from later in the recording.

There is no 'Well' on Good Rockin' Tonight which would fit.

Keith is wrong about that.
