Elvis Is Black!

Postby Colin.Bee » Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:11 am

When. I first saw this album cover I thought it was a rerelease of Elvis Is Back and I thought what a odd photo to use. After reading the blurb I realised it was Black and not Back. This has to be one of the most bizarre album titles ever and will probably help fuel the Elvis stole black music brigade.

It is a limited edition Record Store Day release available in selected shops only. After that no doubt there will be people selling it for double the original price. All songs featured are out of (European) copyright i.e. no later than 1962.
Record Store Day is coming saturday April 22, 2023.
I skip.

Who cares for this RSD crap anyway ?

I have never bought one of those artifacts, and never will.

All this endless flow of PD releases simply cheapened the collecting aspect of the pre 1963 music vinyl.

They are worthless when anyone can release them because of European copyright law.

To add to my comments above, I think PD releases are worthless when they are just copy and paste money grabbing jobs from official releases.
a small percentage of PD releases might have exclusive material and added value which might make them valuable in an overflooded market.
For example: The Elvis and Sinatra vinyl from Memphis Mansion or certain releases where the audio is genuinely improved.

I bought this because the concept appealed to me and the songlisting is great.. but it turned out to be quite the disappointment.
The booklet (and the record covers) contain mostly AI enhanced pictures, especially the booklet, containing horribly upscaled pictures and some low quality pictures. I haven't listened to the music itself yet, but the presentation has kinda made me not feel like playing it.

When I saw this in store the presentation dissuaded my purchase.
I didn’t buy any of this years VPI record store day releases.
I have bought all their others and genuinely like them.
