Elvis' First Professional appearance Overton Park Shell

Postby cadillac-elvis » Sun Jul 19, 2020 6:39 am

This is quite an historical day for every Elvis fan for sure.

And the anniversary is just a few weeks away.

I've heard several people talk about this show, and some
conflated his appearance of 1955, but I had never
heard the headliner Slim Whitman speak of it.
Here he does on the David Letterman show in the 1980's.
Very cool recollection.

Which levels in particular? I thought it was interesting too.

I think he is speaking of the part where he says, we couldn't get him off, and then he says, he couldn't go on after him.
Could that be true the headliner refused to go on, because of Elvis?
Was he just inflating the myth a little there?

I'd read that before, that headliners couldn't follow him.

Very interesting to see Whitman talking about that early appearance. Thank you.

You gotta love Slim's "old fashioned" style being spread on a prime time TV show in 1981. Classy.

I have no idea, but there can't be too many items like that in existence, so it has to be pretty expensive, especially with the signature on the back.

By the way, I have just realized I posted the above videos in the wrong order. The second one in the post is part 1, and the first one is part 2. But I really don't want to edit a post that's been thanked, so I will leave it as it is. Apologies.

yeah, I thought about that too.

You would think that someone Elvis knew, had a kodak brownie camera,
and what an event for him this would be.
Not one single photo has surfaced?
very strange. in the 1950's people took pictures of everything.
