I kind of like the design on the front, always thought it was a pretty good picture.

I just don't understand why they did not remix the American 69 Memphis sessions, but they did on this project. Hell, They re-mix /re- master the out takes on Elvis at Stax and on Way Down in the Jungle Room, but not on his most important sessions in the latter part of his career.

I think the '69 Memphis would have been much harder to mix because those songs were built with layers of overdubs - from the American house band to various Elvis vocal drop ins. For the 1970 sessions, the overdubs were mainly strings, horns and background vocals. No doubt, this made the task easier.

It will be interesting if the correct splice of the undubbed Rags to Riches is used on this set (i.e., the original single edit). However, if its complete undubbed then it will be missing the opening piano and drum roll added to the master. I am sure Keith will be able to tell us what they have given us.

Keith has updated his page, so be sure to look :D

It has to be admitted that, after 900 takes on Sylvia, he does start to sound a little tired...

Being on the phone for those long lonely evenings didn't help.

maybe it remind him of the Anita Wood phone call

This is a boxset I will get for sure.

Those sessions were just great, And even on YT the sound seemed improved to my ears.

I think my last Elvis purchase was Way Down In The Jungle Room so despite beeing a huge fan I dont buy much anymore.
But this release is very tempting and when I want something I dont care about the price :)
Only problem is....3 freaking months waiting time :(

Thanks for posting. I am very keen to get a copy especially on being my birthday month November.

Plus i been sayin' for 9 years that there should be a release like this based on Nashville 1970 as Elvis and the muso's in June, 1970 put in an extraordinary effort of recording so many songs! About three albums worth.

The Nashville 1970 era has always been overshadowed by Memphis 1969 material. So it's going to be cool to have all the songs of June-September 1970 together and in context.

You're right, it will be good to have them together.

As for Patch It Up, I never liked the arrangement. It's too frantic and the message gets lost. I think this would have been better presented as a slower blues.

My biggest problem with these sessions is the sound: not really sounding warm, lack of bass and the drums.
The drums are very prominent, but either too much snare or wrongly miked.
They sound quite hollow and flat to my ears, not as 3 dimensional like on the 76 sessions (although no hiss here in 1970) or even in a lot of 60s Session where the drums sound much better.
So the drum sound makes it kind of hard on my ears.

Make no mistake, I will buy this set, but the recorded sound of the instruments of this 70 session was never my favourite.

It sounds like a female doing back background vocals ? or maybe its Elvis

Elvis double tracking?
No, it's not him.
Anyway, i don't like that "harmony" voice.

Yes, that might have helped.

As it is, it's too rushed, too repetitive & they try to squeeze more excitement out of the song than is actually there !
