This must have been one of the most asked qustions between fans!!

How tall was elvis?

I ask this again because there are many conflicting stories about his height before the Army getting into the Army....ect


Some say 6ft some say 5ft 10 5ft 11 ? does anyone have the correct height?

Probably 5' 11 and a half inches, though when are you talking about? The army or later? At the time of his death he may have been a half inch shorter due to his weight and the compression on his spine. If you look at the near naked pics of Elvis being measured for the army he looks as near as dammit to 6 foot. The mug shot taken in the early 70's Elvis only looks 5' 10" ! But that's unlikely to be correct as if anything Elvis would have probably still had his shoes on as well. I've never seen a mug shot where the person being photo'd gets to keep their shades on!

He used to like shoes with a bit of a heel on them.

Reports of his actual height vary.

I reckon he was a shade under 6 feet.

Thanks greame...i should have said from the army when he was measured upto just before his death...i know as we age we shrink!! Lol

I did hear and read colin, he wore lifts in his shoes to maker him taller...i wonder why he felt the need to do this?

This suggests he was 6'1" without shoes.

I know sonny west was a tall man, if you look at the pics elvis looks the same height in one pic and smaller in the other..maybe he wore lifts on and off...

yvw elvislady other people who were close to him had different issues about his height i think - you cant believe everything you read these days in books etc -Everything is fabricated by many I think _

Yes everything gets a twist on it when published in books it seems to me.
The great thing about what makes a fact a fact is that it is verifiable.

Yes i think you are right steve...its sad that people have to make up stories..and harder for true fans to believe all they here!

I have read many times that Elvis was 5'11" and 6', i have never read anything else but those 2 heights. On my first trip to Graceland in 1987 the tour guides were saying he was 5'11", so who really knows, but i would have to go with Nudie on Elvis true measurements according to this chart.

I'd never go by a tailors measurement as he was never likely to have measured Elvis' height instead he was more likely to have asked him for the sake of "filling in the form".

Why would a tailor need to know Elvis' height? Well, not just Elvis' - anyones?

Shoulder height might be a good one to know from a tailors point of view.

If you look at the photo's of Elvis and Nixon standing next to each other they are both of the same height. Nixon was 5'11 1/2. 5'11-6'0 many men will just say 6'0. Myself if I stand straight I have reached 6'0 otherwise I'am 5'11 3/4. It is possible for Elvis if he stood straight which most of us don't could have probably reached the 6'0 mark other than that he was probably 5'11 1/2-5'11 3/4 on a regular basis. His build was very close to mine. Most of his costumes would fit me.

Such a difference in height, here, Elvislady - good photo.

I know JD Sumner was tall and Elvis was slouching a bit in this photo, there is still a difference, I can see why you questioned this one
