Hello,

I am on the fence what to buy.
I heard that the FTD had issues or mastering errors.
My question : is the audio quality in general better on the Legacy Edition?
Thanks for advice ahead.

Its better compared to the FTD,especially the original session mixes.
They say the soundboard show on disc2 is a lot better than what we have had previously but personally I dont care for this recordings so havent compared to the EAP box set version.
If you like this album and its not something just stored in the shelf I say its worth buying/upgrading....it shouldnt be that expensive either.

I care more for the studio tracks, outtakes or different mixes.
The live CD is of no interest for me.

I like the bootleg version.

But in truth it need"s to be re-done like KID GALAHAD are two FTD"s that did those sessions any favors!.

Is the legacy edition that bad?
Since "today"was one of the better engineered albums of the 70s.

Legacy is not bad....not at all but it doesnt have any outtakes so due to this I also wish it was re-released on the FTD label as a complete session release.
Today FTD was the first release in the classic 2disc studio album series and they did a lots of things wrong audiowise but everything was great with the next one "Raised On Rock" from 2007....that one is still pretty good :)

I like and love the Raised on Rock ftd.
But dont you think the masters and rough mixes sound better on the legacy edition?

FTD,hence also me putting up KG.

LEGACY is fine but it can be done better sound wise in this day and age.
Each to there own.

I prefer the sound on the Legacy set. there might not be alternative takes there (only undubbed masters) the sound quality on the FTD is not good..
The live show has been newly re-assembled, which wasnt bogus, the sound is better then it was on the EAP set, and the reason you know its been re-assembled is because in some parts the dialogues are slightly different / longer.

I'd prefer the FTD for the studio outtakes and original mixes

So....my legacy edition of "today"arrived.
Unlike most fans , who let their elvis -product for weeks unopened and still shrinked-wrapped, I opened it and did listen.
Nice package, good liner notes, not over the top written and balanced.
Nice pictures with a lot of them in sharp quality.
And for 8 bucks incl. shipping good value for money.

BUT when I heard the first track "T-R-O-U-B-L-E " (master, of course) i was surprised in a negative way.
The same track on the 70s box from 1995 (!!) sounds there not only just louder but also has a lot more punch compared to the legacy edition version.
I am disappointed on this issue so far.
Ps: but the piano sounds on the said track on the legacy edition cleaner, especially on the opening riff.

The 70s box from 1995 still sounds great....almost 25 years after release.
IMO Lady Madonna sounds much better on that box compared to the NOW-FTD version....more punch as you say.
But I have heard of many who doesnt like the sound on the 70s box so its impossible for Sony to make everybody happy.
Many years ago I made a CDR of the original Country 1971 album with all songs from the box because I like the mix so much.
Unfortunately all tracks from the TODAY album isnt on the box so no point in making a CDR....
In my view Steamroller Blues from memphis sounds much better on Platinum compared to the Legacy edition of the original album.
My favorite version of the TODAY album is a reissue released in japan in 2008 butI still like the Legacy edition...
Have you listened to the TODAY tracks from The Album Collection (60cd) box or The Complete Masters (30cd)box set...maybe the sound is different vs Legacy aka better?

No, I didn't bought the 60 CD or 30 CD set.
I try to avoid dublication, although I have alot of duplication, as you may guessed, too.
Double features, ftd movie sets etc.
But having additionally a 60 CD album set and the 30 cd set (and maybe 2 copies, like many fans, even unopened shrink wrapped....) is not my thing.
